With the opportunity provided by Professor Yoshiki Arakawa, we presented our research on ‘Understanding the (Epi)genome of Pediatric Brain Tumors Using Animal Models and Exploring Novel Therapies’ at Kyoto University Hospital. We hope this connection will foster future collaborative research!!

The 74th Brain Medical and Biological Research Meeting was held jointly with the 3rd Young KYOUEN of the Japanese Society for Neurochemistry, chaired by Prof. Kazunobu Sawamoto, Director of the Institute of Neuroscience. Professor Kawauchi delivered an invited lecture on ‘Understanding the Mechanisms of Pediatric Brain Tumor Formation Based on (Epi)genomic Abnormalities and Exploring Novel Therapies. Prof. Kawauchi have been awarded the 2024 Kawano Pediatric Medical Scholarship Foundation Research Grant.
2024.03.26 Announcement
Professor Kawauchi’s project, ‘Identification of Novel Therapeutic Targets through the Development of Pediatric Brain Tumor Models Using Human ES Cell-Derived Brain Organoids,’ has been selected for the 2024 Kawano Pediatric Medical Scholarship Foundation Research Grant. This research aims to create pediatric brain tumor models from human ES cells and develop new therapies.
Dr. Kawauchi have been awarded the 2023 Astellas Foundation for Research on Metabolic Disorders Research Grant.
2023.11.06 Announcement
Dr. Kawauchi’s project, ‘Exploration of Therapeutic Target Molecules through Epigenomic Analysis of Medulloblastoma,’ has been awarded the 2023 Astellas Foundation for Research on Metabolic Disorders Research Grant. Over the next two years, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms that regulate the unique epigenome of medulloblastoma.

Dr. Kawauchi’s proposal has been selected for the AMED P-PROMOTE Project 2023.

川内教授が次世代がん医療加速化研究事業(P-PROMOTE)領域Aと領域Bにそれぞれ研究代表者および分担研究者(代表:TMDU上阪直史教授)として採択されました。
領域Aは脳腫瘍のエピゲノム研究、領域Bはがんと神経のコミュニケーションに関する研究です。

The Kawauchi group participated in the fundraising activities of the German Brain Tumor Research Foundation’s ‘Ein KIWI gegen Krebs‘ by taking a team photo from Japan. This initiative aims to unite teams globally to combat pediatric cancer.

- Our collaborative work, which analyzes DNA methylation in brain tumor mouse models, has been published in Nature Genetics.
- Prof. Kawauchi and Asst. Prof. Chapman gave presentations at the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Neuro-Oncology.
- The inaugural 1st Cancer Neuroscience Research Meeting was held at Nagoya City University.
- Our methodology for generating medulloblastoma mouse models using in utero electroporation has been published in the Nature Publishing Group eBook “Neuromethods.”
